Allie Young is Diné from Kirtland, New Mexico. She lives in Los Angeles where she works in the television industry as the Executive Assistant to the Showrunners and Creator of the hit Nickelodeon show, The Thundermans. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College (Class of 2013), where I she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Studies. She is a storyteller, working her way to becoming a screenwriter to share the incredible stories of our people that have helped us persevere through the many difficult times we have faced as Indigenous peoples. I want to bring storytelling and social awareness back to television and cinema, using filmmaking as a mass communication tool to shed light on the social injustices our people have not only witnessed, but have suffered from for over five hundred years.
Highlighting the social injustices is not my only goal. I would also like to help Native youth realize the beauty of our cultures and languages, and to encourage them to be proud of their ancestry. Working towards building this strong foundation in our youth across “Indian Country,” we will have the support necessary to change negative stereotypes of our people in the media and reclaim Native American history. Our stories will no longer be his story, told in textbooks and Hollywood Westerns; they will be authentic, from The People.
